Learning and Resting

As teachers we have to understand that every student is different, but they all have one thing in common, their unit, body, brain, mind. These four components together require breathing room throughout lessons to fully gain the knowledge we imparted.

A study done by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke suggests that our brains require some sort of “short rest” in order to strengthen our memory. We have to be able to provide our students with in between resting phases during theory for them to be able to do the related activities after.

After a long investigation that studied brain waves during a learning opportunity, cientists found that we may actually be learning during our resting time rather than the practice afterwards. This helps us understand that its not only a well being topic of resting during lessons, but also a cientific method do promote a better understanding of content throughout the year.

What are your thoughts on “resting phases” during your lessons? What sort of “breaks” do you give your students?
